CONTEXT
This site had various discharge light fittings, i.e. SON’s, Metal Halide and Fluorescents. All of which remained constantly lit, because of occupancy patterns and the lack or absence of natural daylight.
REQUIREMENT
Tate Consulting Engineers who act as energy consultants for ASDA surveyed the lighting in all of their UK distribution centers, (DCs). Tate found that almost all of the lighting throughout these DC’s remained lit 24hrs/7days, 52weeks/year, and other than replacing every single light fitting for an energy-efficient alternative, (an expensive and disruptive option), there was little that could be done to reduce energy consumption.
In Order to reduce the electricity consumption of the existing lighting by 25% GWE supplied an eco-max bespoke system with a centralised lighting control system. The control system was installed by ASDA’s own facilities Management Company. The rollout covered twelve Distribution centres and was completed within 3 months with an impressive payback period of just 8 months and an average yearly saving of £587,380.
